Manufacturing execution system (MES)

Software that monitors and controls manufacturing operations on the plant floor.

A manufacturing execution system (MES) is software that monitors and controls production operations on the plant floor. It sits between a plant’s planning systems and the physical operations, tracking production orders, recording equipment data, and capturing what happened during each shift.

MES tools are designed for production tracking, scheduling, and downtime management. They are not typically designed to deliver guided procedures to workers on the floor, or to capture step-level compliance records for individual tasks.

Skill Reality is designed to complement MES software, not replace it. Guided procedures on smart glasses and wearables address the gap between the instructions in an MES work order and the actual steps a worker takes at the machine. Integration with MES systems is on the Skill Reality roadmap.
