On-the-job training

Learning that happens at the workstation using real equipment and live procedures.

On-the-job training (OJT) is instruction that occurs at the actual workstation during live production. The new worker uses the same equipment, materials, and conditions they will encounter every day.

OJT is a common training method in manufacturing and food production. It typically involves pairing a new worker with an experienced operator for a period of time. The quality of training depends heavily on the experienced worker’s ability to teach, and the time they have available.

Skill Reality reduces the cost of OJT by giving new workers step-by-step guided procedures on smart glasses and wearables. They can follow along without constant supervision. Completion data shows where new workers take longer or make errors, helping training leads identify which procedures need attention.
