SOP (standard operating procedure)
A written set of step-by-step instructions for a routine task.
A standard operating procedure (SOP) is a document that specifies how a task should be performed, in what sequence, and to what standard. SOPs are the foundation of consistent, repeatable operations in manufacturing, food production, and warehousing.
SOPs are used for training new workers, auditing compliance, investigating quality incidents, and demonstrating regulatory compliance. In practice, many SOPs are kept in binders, printed and laminated at the workstation, or stored in file systems that workers rarely consult during a task.
Skill Reality’s Forge tool converts existing SOPs into guided digital procedures ready to deliver on smart glasses and wearables. Workers follow the steps one at a time in their line of sight rather than consulting a document. Each completed step is logged automatically, creating a compliance record alongside the procedure itself.
