Preventive maintenance

Scheduled maintenance performed on equipment before a failure occurs.

Preventive maintenance (PM) is a planned, time-based or usage-based maintenance strategy. Equipment components are serviced or replaced on a schedule, before a failure occurs rather than in response to one.

A PM task typically follows a written procedure that a maintenance technician must execute in a specific order: isolating the equipment, disassembling components, inspecting, replacing parts, reassembling, and verifying correct operation. Missing a step or performing steps out of order can shorten equipment life or create safety risks.

Skill Reality guides technicians through PM procedures on smart glasses and wearables, keeping both hands free to work with tools and components. Each completed step is logged automatically, providing a maintenance record that supports reliability programs and regulatory compliance.
